Hey dear.. welcome to a new blog post,
How is your week going, hope you didnt drag yourself to work today like i did.. i had a beautiful weekend, and didnt want the fun to stop.. LOL
This blog is about a photography mentorship programme i attended and was a guest speaker; This well planned program took place in the city of Akure, Ondo State. Nigeria, and i spoke about “THE BUSINESS OF PHOTOGRAPHY”
and attached below is my slide presentation—
The major points for me were
In the business of photography,
1- When starting, Dont Buy a Camera yet:
YES.. dont buy a camera yet, we make the mistake of thinking getting a camera is the first step to starting a photography business, we forget that its a business, and must follow the proven format of being successful in business which for me would be;
2- Develop A Passion For Photography:
The Early days of starting a business and creating a brand are always the roughest days of the business, most times you would be penniless, broke, and the business would seem its not growing, giving up is a common decision if there is no passion, passion is the drive of a business, so develop a passion for it, get accustomed to taking pictures with your phone, reading up photography magazines, reading photography posts online, offer to take group pictures than being in front of the camera.
3- Learn From A Mentor Or Obtain Proffesional Knowledge About the business:
Go for a proffesional training, six months is enough to learn the ins and out of a photography business, so look for a photography brand that you love and can afford, contact them for their training fee, pay up and spend a good time learning the business of photography, this is the most overlooked part of the business of photography, and its one of the major setbacks in most photography business, i cant count how many photographers call and contact me on how much they should charge, or where do i make prints, or where can i get equipments to buy, these are first hand knowledge i learnt during my training days..
4- Offer To Be A Second Shooter:
This is a proven step of being successful in the business of photography, assist a photographer, help carry his camera bag, carry his reflector, while you are doing this take time to observe the way he shoots, how he relates to his clients, look at the vantage points he positions himself while taking creative shots, help him take shots that you think he would miss, offer to help him in selecting his pictures, help deliver his products to his clients, by so doing you are getting accustomed to the business, so when you want to start yours it would be easy on you..
5- Now You Can Buy Your Camera And Start Your Photography Business Journey……
